| Facebook’s Gaming mobile app will shut down on this October |
The Facebook Gaming mobile app will no longer be available for download starting October 28, but the web service will continue to operate, the social media said.
In April 2020, social media giant Facebook entered the gaming industry by launching the Facebook Gaming app. Now, according to a notice sent to users, Facebook said the app will no longer be available for download from October 28.
Additionally, the Meta-owned company has not shared any explanation as to why it is shutting down the mobile app. Although Facebook Gaming was introduced in 2018, it took two years to develop the mobile app. He did so in hopes of breaking into a market dominated by Twitch and YouTube for years.
Facebook has also added a creator program with some really useful features like the ability to co-cast. And in 2020, the platform acquired Microsoft's game streaming platform - Mixer, which has already recruited popular streamers such as Ninja and Shroud.
Although the mobile app may soon be gone, Facebook has made it clear that the web version of its game streaming service will be up and running. In recent years, Facebook has steadily poured money into its gaming platform, signing deals with creators like Disguised Toast and footballer Neymar Jr.
The service gained popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic, but since then its user base seems to be slowly dying. According to StreamLabs, Facebook's gaming service has the lowest viewing hours compared to Twitch and YouTube Gaming.
