Customers can expect the first Android 13 (Go Edition) smartphones to launch in 2023.

Google has announced Android 13 (Go Edition) as the latest version of its Android software for entry-level devices.  A new version of Android Go was announced two months after the release of Android 13 and it comes with amazing updates and new features for “Go devices”. 

One of the biggest changes announced by Google is that devices running Android 13 (Go edition) will receive system updates from Google Play.  Considering the limited hardware available on entry-level smartphones, it only makes sense for software updates to come through the Google Play Store, as is the case with Google's Pixel-branded smartphones.

Support for system updates from Google Play on these devices ensures that devices stay up-to-date on a regular basis, without having to go through a system update that consumes extra storage space.  This means that users no longer have to wait for major updates from manufacturers, as system components can be updated individually from time to time.

The next big addition with Android 13 (Go Edition) is Material Ui.  Google has finally decided to bring some Material U design elements to Go devices, allowing users to customize their devices, similar to what we currently have on Android 12 and Android 13 smartphones.  Google says users can customize the color of your phone.  Scheme to coordinate with selected wallpaper.  

Users will have four corresponding color schemes to choose from, which will apply to toggles in the notification bar, the Settings app, the keyboard, and more.  The material is nice to have you on entry-level smartphones.  Google has yet to specify how the design feature will affect the minimum hardware requirements for such devices.

The Google Discover feed is also available on Android 13 (Go edition) devices, accessible by swiping right from the home screen, just like on regular Android smartphones.  In its blog post, Google also mentioned other Android 13 features like notification permissions, app language preferences, etc.

Google says there are 250 million active devices running Android Go. Devices running Android 13 (Go Edition) out of the box will launch in 2023, the internet company said.  Xiaomi recently announced its Redmi A1+ in India powered by Google Android 12 (Go edition).  It is competitively priced at Rs. 6999 and offers 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage with the base variant.  The device packs a MediaTek Helio A22 SoC, dual rear camera setup, 5000mAh battery and also adds a fingerprint reader which is not available on the standard Redmi A1 model.  .
